“Half the confusion in the world comes from not knowing how little we need.”  Richard E. Byrd

How Little

When the shadow takes all
we lose our deep, inner sight
and chaos presents
so beautifully as need,
as urgency,
wrapped and double wrapped
all shiny and shouting,
like sirens calling us onto the
rocks unaware,
how little we know ourselves,
and how little we really need.
