Playing with idioms again

You can’t have a better tomorrow if you’re always thinking about yesterday.

C. Roth

They always said “A leopard can’t change its spots.”
That not wanting to wave a white flag, to my fear
Of being caught in the dark
Was nothing but a preposterous pipe dream
For my yellow streak was known throughout the land.

In fact, there wasn’t a mind unaware of my cowardly exploits.

You should have seen how quickly their heads turned
When i arrived one evening with no spots to be spotted on my coat.
At long last they would face the music of their words
And at long last I can jump for joy whenever I’m in the dark

Instead of just sitting tight hoping that after the night I’ll be alright.
